Day 5
Still alive, still tired - although today was a slight lie in as we’d nothing planned for the day.
We discussed what to do over the hotel breakfast and decided that as the weather was tipping it down, we’d tube it to the biggest shopping mall in Vienna.
It was, as billed, very big and for a long while not very busy which was perfect.
We went in one department store and I commented how much better it was than in the UK as they had sofas liberally sprinkled around the place just in case shopping got too much for you.
Then it took things to a new level by having a coffee bar that served beer in the shop!! This is my kind of shopping.
In fact, they had multiple crèches for men - we stopped at one
And merely pined for the other.
The mall even had tiny escalators if you feeling too lazy to go up 6-7 steps.
They even had, wait for it, a place to keep the kids amused.
All this walking around made us hungry and as we were all schnitzel’d out, we opted for the Saloon for chicken wings and ribs.
That’s what we both ordered but the server misheard and only brought us wings - I queried where the ribs were and he apologised and brought us a plateful to share
It was all delicious.
We then tubed it over the other side of Vienna to a place that was described as a bustling outside shopping area.
When we got there, it looked like Boscombe.
We didn’t stay long.
We opted for a tube home via the supermarket to pick up more water and snacks and then a lie down before the evening festivities.
So “we” decided to go to our little bar and I asked for the Bournemouth game to be put on.
That was my one mistake of the night.
Absolutely rubbish
Defending worthy of non league.
Anyway, we then ate pizza and consumed some beer.
We got talking to a guy called Christof and it was his step-father that owned the place.
His English was impeccable.
He introduced us to his cousin Stephanie, his girlfriend Emma and his best mate David
Their English was amazing and had the courtesy to constantly speak English in our presence.
There were guys from Germany that came into the bar and they were hammered and shouting songs about being hooligans but our hosts didn’t seem worried so we weren’t either.
Many did leave, however.
The barman then offered to buy us shots. Which of course we agreed to but that did set up a rota of shots, beers and more shots that had us both a little unsteady by the end of the night ( it is currently 02:46)
We hugged them all goodbye and as I write this I wonder how I can possibly make it up in time for breakfast…..
