Day 1

It was an early start for me as I had a check-up at the docs (all fine), and I did some chocolate shopping for the kids to sweeten the loss of their beloved parents for the next few days. Especially pertinent as Hattie was still under the weather and although we did feel guilty, not guilty enough to not go…

To start the holiday as we intended to continue, we went off to The Barn Cafe for a bacon and egg baguette - delicious!!

Once back home, we went through our lists of things to take, packed, and tried to check in online.

I say try because I couldn’t do it, but it worked okay on Joss’ phone, so we were all set for tomorrow.

At just after 1, we set off, and Joss did brilliantly with the driving despite admitting to some “wobbles” ( I didn’t notice), and we were at the hotel just after 3.

We approached the car park barrier, and it raised up, but as I was there a month ago, I said Joss needed to press the ticket button.

She did.

Nothing happened.

She did it again.

The barrier went down - bugger.

Joss then pressed the help button but was ignored several times until she started to drive back and forth until the barrier went up.

We drove in.

I queried this with reception, and he just said “yeah, it’s all changed”.

Fair enough.

We dropped our stuff off in the room, then went off to the pub down the road.

The door had tape across it saying use the other door, but as we went to that door, people were coming out saying no, we need to use the first door now.

We got in and sat at our 2018 New York seats.

We had a couple of drinks whilst the Irish builders argued amongst themselves, then we ordered some food.

Mine was nice, but Joss’ wasn’t just nice, it was bloody enormous!!!

Having finished that, I felt like I could do with a “pudding” so went to the local garage to find chocolate…and Doritos.

It was just a shame they didn’t have any Jammy Dodgers …

I ate those back in the room, then went to the hotel’s sports bar to watch the Liverpool / PSG game.

There were lots of selfish singletons hogging the tables closest to the tv’s so I ended up with this view.

I could actually see the play better on this screen, as long as the guy with the hat leaned forward - gutted.

So I drank my beer as Joss watched instagram and then asked if we could call it a day, so I could watch the footy in the room.

Joss was more than happy with that but I felt dejected.

So dejected I went to the hotel shop.

£2.69 for a twix??? You’ve got to be kidding!!!

I wasn’t having that so I stormed off alone back to the garage to buy an enormous white chocolate twix for £1 less and then I saw a pack of 4 Jaffa cakes for £1.50

I almost went for it but the spirit of nan whispered in my ear, “there’s a box of 10 for £1.80”.

I couldn’t eat 10, but I couldn’t leave that kind of a bargain so I bought it and went back to the room to watch the rest of the game on my phone.
